Referrals

What is the process for obtaining a referral?

New Referrals: Please make an appointment to discuss the need for a new referral. Upon check out, you will be asked how you would like to receive your referral (Mail, E-mail, or pickup). If you want your referral e-mailed please verify with the front desk that we have the correct e-mail on file. Once you receive your referral it will include the specialist's information in order for you to make an appointment.
Specialist to Specialist Referrals: Please make an appointment to discuss the need for a new specialist referral. When one specialist is referring you to another specialist the referral has to be approved by your primary care. As per Insurance regulations a Specialist cannot refer you to another specialist. The can give you a recommendation that you can then bring to you primary care physician for approval.

How long does it take to get a referral?
Obtaining an authorization for a referral can be a complicated process. Depending on the insurance and the specialists office this can take a several days to more than a week.
We ask that you give us at least 10 business days to get this authorization. We appreciate your understanding as we communicate with the involved parties to make sure your referral is done properly.

Who makes the appointment?
Please call the number of the specialist given to you on your referral and schedule an appointment that best fits your schedule. The office does not schedule appointments for patients.

Will the specialist have my information?
We make it a practice to always send the last visit note and any recent labs or radiology to the specialist you were referred to by fax. It is always a good idea, however, to also carry hard copies of these items with you which we will gladly provide to you as a hard copy or via email!

Will you get the report of my visit with the Specialist?
We  request that visit notes and any reports of additional labs or radiology are forwarded to us from the specialists that we refer you to at the time of referral, but this does not always happen. It is a good idea if you get a hard copy of these things to bring in for us to scan on your next visit and to keep for your own records.
